The Future Is Virtualization
Server virtualization is a software architecture that allows more than one server operating system to run on a given physical server. With the server software abstracted away from the physical machine, the server becomes a “virtual machine,” though it “thinks” it’s running exclusively on computer and memory resources. It’s actually running on a virtual imitation of the server hardware.
Server virtualization has taken off in recent years because it can increase organizations’ competitive advantage. What’s the big deal about virtualization? Why are IT organizations so attached to this technology? The simple answer: It saves money.
